Post-Election Peacebuilding in Liberia (New York - 19.10.11)

Seminar Background

The post-elections period in Liberia presented an opportunity for those in the peacebuilding community in New York to reflect on, in more detail, the direction of peacebuilding and statebuilding in the country. It also offered a chance for member states, the UN, and civil society to discuss how best to consolidate and strengthen ongoing peacebuilding processes in Liberia.

For this discussion Mr. Emmanuel Bombande, Executive Director of
the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and Board Chairman of the GPPAC  provided a grounded perspective on the situation in Liberia, while Dr. William Tsuma, GPPAC’s Program Manager for Preventive Action and Regional Coordinator for West and Southern Africa shared details about GPPAC’s work during the elections in the area of violence prevention.

This meeting brough together New York - based NGOs, interested country missions and the UN - Peacebuilding Commission.
